Professional HVAC Maintenance Services
Like most other equipment, all furnaces require regular maintenance to continue functioning efficiently. Maintenance is especially important for preventing issues that can limit how quickly the HVAC system heats and cause it to use much more energy. An annual furnace tune-up can also help to prevent issues that could cause your furnace not to run or lead to greater wear and tear and a shorter lifespan.
For instance, maintenance includes cleaning the furnace burners. This is important since dirty burners or clogged burner ports will reduce how much heat the unit produces at a time. Clogged ports can also lead to an ignition delay. Delayed ignition can be a huge problem, as it often creates a small fireball when the furnace lights, which has the potential to cause serious damage. Maintenance can also prevent issues like a furnace flame rollout that could damage the furnace or potentially create a major fire hazard.
The technician will also clean the furnace’s flame sensor. This is also essential since a dirty flame sensor can prevent the furnace from ever running. The flame sensor can get dirty enough that it can’t detect when the furnace is lit. When this happens, the internal gas valve will close and the furnace will shut off within a few seconds of igniting.
The technician will clean and inspect the HVAC blower and make sure that the ductwork isn’t leaking and the thermostat is working correctly. Cleaning and inspecting the blower is especially important since it’s what brings cool air into the furnace and circulates the hot air throughout your home.
If the blower is excessively dirty or not working correctly, it may not be able to circulate sufficient air. This can then lead to heat quickly building inside the furnace and the unit overheating and shutting down. Overheating is a serious problem, as it can also damage the furnace wiring or potentially cause the heat exchanger to crack.
A cracked heat exchanger is the most serious of all furnace issues. If the furnace has a cracked heat exchanger, it will greatly reduce how much heat the unit produces. Still, the bigger issue is that a cracked heat exchanger can allow carbon monoxide to leak out into the ductwork and potentially lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
While servicing the furnace, the technician will also fully inspect the heat exchanger, wiring, and all other components. This is important since it can identify even minor issues that could reduce the furnace’s effectiveness or increase energy costs. It will also help to prevent the heater from potentially breaking down during the winter or becoming unsafe to operate. If the technician does find any problems, they can usually repair the issue right then to ensure your furnace works well all winter.
By scheduling an annual furnace tune-up and inspection, you can enjoy all of these great benefits:
- Improved home comfort
- Lower heating costs
- Reduced risk of breakdowns and expensive repairs
- Quieter, safer furnace operation
- Longer furnace lifespan
