Ontario furnace repair work runs lighter than HD cities because mild IE winters mean furnaces cycle far less than in Hesperia or Apple Valley. But IE valley-floor overnight lows still drop into the high 30s several times per winter, exposing weak ignitors and flame sensors that worked fine on warmer cycles. South Ontario and central Ontario homes (pre-1980) frequently have 80% AFUE gas furnaces that are now 20-25 years old, well past 20-year service life — the failure mode that condemns these is often a cracked heat exchanger, which we test for on every diagnostic with combustion analyzer readings. Replacement-with-upgrade to 95%+ AFUE typically wins the cost-benefit conversation when the heat exchanger is cracked. Newer Ontario Ranch and New Model Colony homes (post-2010) have 90-95% AFUE condensing furnaces with cleaner failure modes — usually flame sensor or pressure switch.
