Multi-zone custom home sizing

Larger High Country homes often run two or more zones. Each zone needs its own load number, not a share of one big tonnage. We run a Manual J per zone so no area is oversized or starved. A multi-zone replacement runs above the standard single-system range, and we price it per zone after the calc.

Altitude-aware furnace and combustion

Above 3,200 ft, air density drops enough that gas furnace combustion and equipment ratings shift. A unit sized for valley-floor air can run wrong up here. We account for the elevation in both sizing and the burner setup.

Propane to heat pump conversion

Propane at $3.50 to $4.80 a gallon costs more per unit of heat than a heat pump on SCE electricity. For higher-elevation homes replacing both AC and furnace, a cold-climate heat pump often wins on 10-year cost, and SCE rebates of $500 to $1,200 close the upfront gap. We show the side-by-side math.

Whole-home replacement on acreage

Custom homes on large lots can mean longer refrigerant and duct runs and bigger loads. We size for the actual home and design temps, not a rule of thumb, so the system holds temperature on a 105-degree afternoon without short-cycling on milder days.

Zoning fixes for big floor plans

Hot and cold rooms in a large single-zone home are a zoning problem, not a reason to oversize. Adding dampers and a zone controller, or a mini-split for a far wing, evens out comfort for less than a bigger system.
