Quick answer

San Bernardino mini-split install runs $2,000-$4,500 per zone for standard SEER2 14-16 equipment. Multi-zone systems run $5,500-$13,000 total. SCE heat pump rebates of $300-$1,500 on qualifying SEER2 tiers, citywide. Permits pulled, line set hide covers used on every exterior run.

Why this matters in San Bernardino

Mini-Splits in San Bernardino.

San Bernardino mini-split work is heavily AC-only-retrofit driven because the older mid-century housing stock often originally had only a gas furnace and added central AC later as a separate system. Many Arrowhead, North Park, and central San Bernardino homes from the 1950s-1970s have a working furnace and either no AC or a failing 1990s add-on AC. Mini-splits are the right call for these homes because they add cooling without disrupting the existing heating system. Single-zone wall-mounts in master bedrooms or hot rooms typically $2,500-$3,500. Multi-zone whole-home retrofit (2-4 heads on one outdoor unit) typically $5,500-$11,000. Garage conversions and ADUs are also a steady share of San Bernardino mini-split work — older lots with detached garages getting converted into rental units.

Local challenges

What we see on the ground.

Older San Bernardino homes (pre-1980) occasionally need electric panel upgrades for multi-zone mini-split systems. 100A panels run out of headroom when adding multiple outdoor units. Panel upgrade adds $1,500-$3,000 to the project. We measure during the quote walkthrough. SCE territory is uniform citywide so the rebate paperwork is straightforward. Cold-climate variable-speed equipment is rarely needed in San Bernardino — the mild winter climate (35-45°F lows) keeps standard equipment at peak efficiency. Wall mount placement matters for both performance and aesthetics — we pre-walk the install with the customer to confirm head locations work both visually and from a airflow standpoint.

Our A/C went out on Wed 08/31at 2:00am, as you know this has been a tremendous heat wave. I called on Thursday, Joseph came out gave me an estimate, ordered the unit and had it installed on Friday. Joseph's technicians worked quickly and efficiently. In my opinion they went above and beyond to get everything installed, keep in mind this is Labor Day weekend. I can't THANK YOU enough. Pricing and financing was amazing as well.

AC went out Monday. Called JC Energy Solutions and spoke with someone right away. They scheduled me for first thing the next day. The techs were on time, friendly, and professional. They diagnosed and repaired the issue fairly quickly without any problems. Unfortunately, the next day, an identical issue represented itself. Although the issue looked the same, it was a different cause. As someone who’s worked in auto repair, home improvement, and customer service in general, I know these things can happen. What sets JCES apart is how they handle them. They were empathetic and apologetic that there was still an issue. They got one of their top guys to come back out first thing the next day and gave a credit for missing one of the causes. They replaced the part no problem and double checked everything was good to go. If you need responsive, professional, friendly, and great value service, I 10/10 recommend JCES!

Our air conditioning unit went out in the middle of this heat wave. We were able to get a quote right away. My husband has health problems and they were amazing ordering a new unit and getting it installed. Joseph and his team worked so well, so efficiently and also went above and beyond to get everything installed. Great pricing also. We definitely will support them and recommend them.

This is how a company should be ran. From customer service(phone call) when I set an appointment up to the gentleman who came out to service my mini split system. I can't thank them enough for how easy and quickly it was to get everything done. Will be calling them again soon. Everyone who is waiting 3 to 4 weeks for service should really give them a call.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a mini-split cost installed in San Bernardino?
Single-zone $2,000-$4,500. Multi-zone (2-4 heads) $5,500-$13,000 total. Add $1,500-$3,000 if a 100A to 200A panel upgrade is needed (common in pre-1980 Arrowhead and North Park homes).
My old San Bernardino home has a furnace but no AC. Can mini-splits add cooling?
Yes — this is one of the most common San Bernardino mini-split install patterns. Mini-splits add AC without disrupting the existing furnace. Single-zone wall-mount in a primary bedroom or hot room $2,500-$3,500. Multi-zone whole-home cooling retrofit $5,500-$11,000.
Will I need a panel upgrade for a multi-zone mini-split in my older San Bernardino home?
Possibly. Pre-1980 Arrowhead, North Park, and central San Bernardino homes often have 100A panels that run out of headroom for multi-zone mini-split installs. Panel upgrade adds $1,500-$3,000. We measure during the quote walkthrough.
Should I get cold-climate mini-splits in San Bernardino?
Usually no. Standard SEER2 14-16 mini-splits work fine for San Bernardino winters (35-45°F lows). Cold-climate variable-speed equipment adds $200-$500 per zone and is not necessary for the local climate.
How much does a mini-split cost in the High Desert?
Single-zone systems start at $2,000-$3,200 for smaller rooms (9-12k BTU) and $3,200-$4,500 for larger spaces (18-24k BTU). Multi-zone systems with 2-4 heads on one outdoor unit run $5,500-$12,000.
Will a mini-split heat my room in winter?
Yes. Modern cold-climate variable-speed mini-splits (Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat, Daikin Aurora) maintain heating capacity down to 5°F. High Desert overnight lows are typically warmer than that.
Do I need ductwork?
No. That is the entire point of a mini-split. Refrigerant runs from the outdoor unit through a small line set to each indoor head. Only a 3-inch hole in the wall needed.
